Life at AmeXio: Ruben Batista

3 January 2025

Ruben started his professional career in a different sector, in languages and translation, to later become an IT application support technician. He has been working in AmeXio Portugal for almost 6 years.

How did your skills in languages and translation prepare you for your role in IT support?

(…) I believe that being experienced in languages is a plus for an IT Support specialist since it facilitates the translation of technical concepts. (…) For me it is of paramount importance to be able to technically support someone in New York using English, someone in France using French, someone in Brazil or Portugal using Portuguese, someone in Spain and Latin America using Spanish, because sometimes native speakers in some countries cannot easily really follow an explanation in a foreign language, so they will always appreciate if you can address to them in their language, explain and make them understand what they have not understood and make their daily work life easier. And you know what? They always appreciate the effort.

What are the most common challenges you face as an IT support specialist, and how do you tackle them?

(…) depending on other team members with higher responsibilities (…) since they also need to face people above them to come forward with tech solutions or budget approval, for instance.

For me the best way to tackle those challenges is through ITIL, informing and keeping the users and/or clients updated and assuring them that all efforts are being made to resolve a blocking situation. (…) and the truth is that we need to be ready for that and deliver.

(…) For me, continuous adaptability is key to thriving in IT application support!|

Do you feel supported by AmeXio in your career evolution and skills development?

Absolutely, yes. At this very moment, with the help of AmeXio, I am following a course on SQL to widen the window of opportunities I may have for future projects and missions within the company.

What do you enjoy most about working within AmeXio?

Well, to answer this and support it, I would rather divide it into two parts. One from the IT experience and the other from the human relationship (…).

  • I find satisfaction in troubleshooting technical issues and helping users resolve their problems. It’s rewarding to see a system or software working smoothly after diagnosing and fixing issues.
  • IT Support exposes me to a wide range of tasks. This variety keeps things interesting and prevents monotony.
  • Technology evolves rapidly, and IT Support allows me to stay updated. Continuous learning keeps me engaged.
  • Collaborating on projects, sharing knowledge, and celebrating successes together create a positive work environment.
  • Interacting with users directly provides valuable insights. Understanding their needs, frustrations, and preferences helps improve the service I provide and enhances the user’s satisfaction.

From the human point of view, these factors are with no doubts my favorite (…):

  • A company like AmeXio, that values work-life balance, allows me to recharge outside of work. In my opinion, having time for hobbies, family, and personal growth contributes to my overall happiness.
  • Feeling appreciated for my contributions motivates me. Whether it’s a simple “thank you” or formal recognition, it boosts morale.
  • A supportive and inclusive culture matters. When colleagues respect each other and work toward common goals, it enhances job satisfaction. At AmeXio Portugal, I can say that there’s a somewhat melting pot and I believe it is an asset for the company.

Would you say that AmeXio supports collaboration and teamwork?

Absolutely, I’m a living example of that, but I’m sure other colleagues will most likely say the same. This collaboration is, in my opinion, one of the key ingredients for the growth AmeXio has experienced in these past few years.

What do you think makes AmeXio any different from other companies in the industry?

(…) I found it quite unbelievable the way people in the top places of the company interact with us, collaborators. They mix with us, and their interaction is so relaxed and easy-going (…) In fact, it’s very pleasant to see this kind of proximity in a company and it is key to success as well.

Of course, team building and social gatherings deserve also an especial mention, since we can, either for an evening or a weekend, be able to interact with other colleagues that are located in other countries with whom we work together online but we barely see in person. (…)

(…) I can compare it to the previous one I worked with and the main point that differentiates AmeXio with it is that in AmeXio we all seem the same. In the previous one, we could tell the difference since those in the Top, even in Social Gatherings or team buildings, did not mix with their collaborators, at least not in the way we experience it in AmeXio. I would say that AmeXians are cool, and the others tried to be it! To sum this all up, the main difference for me is that AmeXio looks like a family, always listening, always there to help.

What would you say to someone who asks you “Why are you in AmeXio for 5+ years?

Maybe you won’t believe this, but all the above and the very family word have been decisive in wanting to continue with AmeXio. Through all these years I’ve had other companies approaching me to change my course of action, but in the end, and I have talked about this with other colleagues who have

experienced the same approaches, it is not for a few more euros that I will leave a family to try to fit a new one, and then start all over again. I’m grateful!

Why would you say AmeXio is a good place for YOU to work at?

Well, I guess all of my previous answers are proof that AmeXio is not only a good place for me to work but for everybody.
