Life at AmeXio: Terence Koch

7 March 2025

Terence Koch (Technical Consultant) answered five questions highlighting his work at AmeXio Group in The Netherlands.

What is your current role and what are your activities?

I'm a Technical Consultant and Software Engineer, currently working on the backend of a complex application that's going to be used by big names in the aviation business and several U.S. government agencies. Because of the type of clients, the expectations are very high, so I focus a lot on thorough code reviews while solving challenging programming tasks. I also occasionally help guide interns.

How did you come across AmeXio as an employer?

I heard about AmeXio through an old school friend who had great things to say about it. During the recruitment process, what really stood out to me was the friendly atmosphere which was apparent from the start.

Who do you work with a lot and what tasks do you take on together?

I’ve worked with a lot of people across six different teams over the past 4.5 years. Right now, I’m part of a small team of five: three backend developers (including me), one frontender, and a business consultant. Even though my direct team is small, I’m always encouraged to collaborate and get involved with other projects around the office. It never feels like I’m limited to just my team—we’re all one big group, learning from each other and working together on different projects and clients.

What has surprised you the most within AmeXio and why?

What surprised me the most is the trust they put in employees. The managers are supportive and don’t act like they’re above you, which is refreshing. Coming from previous jobs where strict hierarchy and tight deadlines were the norm, I never expected to find a company that cares so much about keeping employees happy, balancing workloads, and even considering personal situations.

What tasks or activities do you get the most satisfaction from your work and why?

I enjoy working on challenging, well-thought-out features that have clear business value. It’s also satisfying to improve the quality of a platform that impacts thousands of people. No projects I've worked on felt small—every change we make can have a big impact, and that’s really motivating.

What makes you a great fit at AmeXio?

What makes me a great fit at Amexio is the flexibility, trust, and low-stress environment. The fair pay and respect also go a long way. On a personal level, the simple humor, like-minded people and nerdy conversations make every day feel less like work and more like something I enjoy.

What anecdote or experience within AmeXio has stuck with you to date and why?

There have been so many great experiences, it’s hard to pick just one.
- One standout was being spontaneously asked if I wanted to go to Disneyland Paris for two days, coupled with a 2-day companywide "summer seminar" to Center Parcs, also in Paris. This was a truly magical four-day experience.
- Another, less extreme but just as memorable, was eating spareribs with three colleagues during my first week at the company. I remember Henry ordering two extra racks! It was easy to socialize with everyone right from the start, which made me feel very welcome.
